The times are quickly changing, the technology is making giant steps, developing in all the sectors, and so, inevitably, the habits are changing, adpating themselves and evolving along with the progress. Between the sectors interested by the huge technological progress of the last years we find out the publishing, torn between pros and cons, between who thinks that the digitalisation is positive and who isn’t able to give up the printed paper. We would like to explain you all the advantages that we can have passing from the paper to the digital.
Journalism 2.0
The journalism had a radical change, transforming and evolving itself trying to keep up with the technological progress. Nowadays the news are directly and quickly researched on the web, bypassing the paper journals, that, inevitably come the day after. Any kind of news, infact, arrives on the web even after few minutes, while, to read it printed, we need to wait at least until the next day, going to the newsstand, buy a newspaper and flipping through it until we find out the news that we like. Furthermore, an essential role is up to the socials, which are able to globaly divulge the news in record times. The thing that can be daily observed is been accurately analysed by a research presented by the institue Human Highway, which evaluated a sample of 160o people over the age of 18 and about 100 news medias for a total of 800 articles. From the research came out that, almost all the examinated people, reading the same news both on the paper and on the digital, prefered the digital one. Finally, came out that, especially in the last years, an essential element in the journalism’s world is the social sharing’s phenomenon.
Literature 2.0
The journalism isn’t the only publishing sector that suffered of a stronger digitalisation. Going around the cities is, infact, inevitable find out that most of the libraries are literally disappearing. Every kinds of books are passing from the printed paper to e-books formats, in a sudden evolution to which is difficult to keep up. The idea to bring the reading to a new level is really many years old. Already in the 1949, infact, Angela Robles, spanish teacher and inventor, registered the patent of the first e-reader. But only many years later, in the 1971, started the project Gutemberg, that will bring, in the 1987, at the release of the first romance on floppy disk. Even though this, many still don’t want to give up with the paper, remaining stucked to the felling betwen the reader and the book. The advantages, though, are many and undeniable.
All the advantages of the digital
Let’s start from the most concrete advantage, the economic one. The economic saving that the digial books bring is, infact, massive for both sides. From one side are breaking down the production’s costs, bypassing all the printer, layot and direct distribution phase, without calculate the online word of mouth’s advantage. From the other side, even the reader find out important economic advantages buying digital books instead of the paper ones. Thanks to a small device, we can bring with us decades of books, saving space and having our own best romances always within reach. The e-books are more practical not only by the physical point of view, having a reading’s device helps even in the understanding, being able to easily highlight a word or a sentence, saving it or just looking for its meaning in the device’s dictionary or in the web. Finally, one of biggest advantage is the amount of paper saved, contributing to reduce the deforestation.
Obviusly between the biggest supporters of this digital changing in the publishing’s world, there are the youngest readers, while many are still reluctant to face it. Obviusly an e-book won’t never replace the felling that the printer paper gives, flipping a paper book and smell the ink on the papers, but the publishing sector, like many others in the daily life, is quickly evolving towards an ever more digital future.
