Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, the DLC finally has a release date. The CD Projekt RED team has unveiled the first expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. The beloved sci-fi title is gearing up for a continuation with an all-new expansion to discover. In fact, we will be able to play new content and meet new characters, including Solomon Reed, a secret agent played by actor Idris Elba (The Suicide Squad, Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw). The expansion is currently planned for release on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, what we know
The new expansion contains content that will expand the story of the original tale, including new characters and areas to discover. In the DLC, we will meet Johnny Silverhand again, played by the beloved Keanu Reeves.
We find a new location within Night City, and from now on you can receive the new base game update: Edgerunners update, also active on old-gen consoles. This update is inspired by the Netflix series, introducing equipment items inspired by the anime. In fact, players will be able to wear the jacket of the anime protagonist: David Martinez and use the rifle wielded by one of the characters in the series.
In addition to the equipment, this new update introduces various gameplay features: cross-platform progression, transmog of clothes, playable cabinets, and much more. As for the new characters, Solomon Reed emerges. We don’t know much about this character, only that he is a mysterious secret agent who is part of the FIA, a secret spy organization according to some rumors.
Another character introduced will be played by actress and model Sasha Gray, who will play DJ ASH. Her character will be the DJ of a radio show broadcast on 89.7 Growl FM. On this new radio station, you can listen to 15 tracks created by the game’s fan community.
A city to burn
Many details about this DLC have not been revealed, and the trailer itself is quite cryptic. We think that the story may fit into the middle of the main Cyberpunk 2077 game. The new expansion’s unseen map paves the way for a new location called Dogtown. This new area is part of Night City, and we believe it might be located near the borders of Pacifica.
In fact, near Coastview, you can hear some NPCs talking about an area cordoned off by the NCPD. This conversation can then be linked to the words of Peralez (in the mission dedicated to him) when he talks about one of the outgoing mayor’s latest inventions. In this speech, he reclassifies Pacifica as a district to lower Night City’s crime and violence statistics.
The Polish development team CD Projekt RED revealed that this expansion will be a spy-thriller with lots of gunfire and mysteries to solve. Talking about the first trailer, we saw V reciting his oath to defend NUSA and Johnny stating that those words have actually become a sentence. In the second trailer, we see a mysterious woman asking us to trust Agent Reed, the only one capable of helping us in this new mysterious mission. Unfortunately, we don’t know who the other characters seen in the trailer are, but we hope to find out soon.
Schemes and intrigues
The President of NUSA, Rosalind Myers, is the protagonist of the intrigue in which we become involved in the expansion. This intrigue will also involve high-ranking individuals within the organization. In fact, in the teaser trailer, we see a revisited Air Force One being hit by a missile and crashing to the ground, and in the second trailer, we get a view of the interior of the plane after the crash.
What we notice is that the impact from the rocket killed the entire crew, but we also see that a capsule was released before the impact. This capsule presumably fell into the hands of a hostile faction that we will learn more about during the game. We only know that the headquarters of this faction is located in Dogtown.
In conclusion, we must save the President with the help of a federal agency. Although this plot may be somewhat cliché, it still seems interesting to play.
